Midget white turkeys were developed in the 1960s to provide a high quality table bird that was smaller in size than commercial birds, and able to breed naturally, thus being more easily managed by small farms and homesteads. At one point, only 6 Midget White turkeys remained alive, but thanks to the efforts of farmers that recognized their quality, the breed has recovered and is growing in popularity. Compared to today's commercial bird, it takes more than twice as long for a heritage bird like the Midget White to reach it's market weight. Longer growth time = better flavor!

Our Midget White Turkeys are are pasture raised, free range birds. So free range, that they are often perching atop our garage, or cars. Sigh....

You can read about Midget White Turkeys on the Slow Food USA "Ark of Taste" website here

This is for the deposit on a Midget White Turkey for 2018 Thanksgiving. The total price for the turkeys will be $7.00 /pound. We will collect a 25.00 deposit upon order, and the balance will be due upon delivery. For example, upon delivery of an 8 pound bird, $31.00 will be due (8 lb x $7.00/lb = $56.00) minus the already paid 25.00 deposit.

The available birds are expected to dress out at 6-9 pounds.

We can not guarantee the exact size of your final bird..

Ever had heritage turkey before? You should expect a bird that has improved flavor relative to commercial birds. You should also expect a higher proportion of very dark meat with extraordinary depth of flavor and color relative to supermarket turkeys. The breast will also have a more pronounced bone, with full white meat filets that are delicious, but not as large as the standard commercial breeds. The carcass may make the best turkey soup you've ever had!

Turkeys will be delivered "freshly frozen" to comply with Indiana law.

We will call customers in advance to arrange delivery on or about the 17th of November. We will deliver turkeys to Zionsville and surrounding areas.

We strive to protect our livestock and provide a quality product. If something unforseen should occur that makes us unable to deliver your turkey (predation, tornado, alien invasion, etc.), orders will be cancelled and deposits will promptly be refunded.
